What's Up?

I apologize for being away from the blog for so long. It's been a whirlwind of business around here with Christmas coming and going and the new year bringing all of the change that it does. Enough with excuses though...it's time to go over what we've been doing for the last month.

Early January Dan and I were perusing the local newspaper to see what the job market was like when we spotted an add depicting a snowmobile wooshing through immaculate snow with the title, "This is Commuting in the Far North" We were immediately intrigued and read on to learn that this was an add for the Northwest Company. A company we were at least a little familiar with having been to 2 of their stores in September when we were in the Arctic. Now some of you may know that Dan and I have been applying for pretty much every position that we felt we might qualify for in the arctic for the last 3 to 4 years with no response at all. We had seen these employement adds on Workopolis several times, never thinking that we could apply as neither of us have any retail management experience. But this time they were advertising in our local paper...it was a sign! So we sent out our resumes, not expecting any more response than we had gotten for the last 4 years. Two days later we had received a package with a cd and a letter inviting us to learn more about the company and the opportunities available, and suggesting that if we were still interested once we had learned more about the company that we should fill out some other forms and send them in. We learned from the cd that every obstacle that we had felt was stopping us from going north seemed to be answered with this company. They provided a house - furnished, so moving would not cost us a fortune. They provided travel, so we could go with our family not worrying about where the money would come from. They were more interested with a right fit than with education or experience. This seemed like provision straight from the throne of God! So we sent in the other forms...still not holding our breaths, and definitely not wanting to get our hopes up. The same day we sent in our other forms, we got a phone call, and an email inviting us to an information session in Kitchener, immediately followed by interviews! This seemed surreal to us, and still does. We attended the info session and were impressed by the realism with which the positions and life in the north were presented. We were also impressed with the people themselves. It just seemed like a good fit. So we entered the interview with confidence and came out of it equaly confident, and a little dazed as it was finally sinking in that this might very well be God's provision and that we might actually be going to the Arctic sooner than later! So here we have been ever since...treading water, not wanting to assume that we got the position. Not wanting to get our hopes up. But jumping everytime the phone rings thinking that maybe today, maybe this time, it is actually going to happen. We have walked this out in total and complete awe as we've been shown again that if God wants us to do something, he will in his timing, make it happen.
